I like the character Huck because he is so laid back and he does things in a simple way. Tom Sawyer would be the opposite of Huck because he is always looking for an adventure and does things in a complicated way. Huck has the type of personality that makes it hard to stay mad at him for very long. Having a father like Huck has, Huck has learned a lot about people who are like his pap and how to deal with them.
I love the character Jim because he is so loyal to Huck even though Huck is still racist against Jims color. Jim is like a symbol for Hucks soft side because when Huck comes close to telling on Jim he always remembers how Jim is such a good man and a loyal friend to him. Jim brings the soft side of Huck to the front.
Huck is the type of boy who says he will do so many things but never does it. He says a lot to seem tough like the part about the southerners being cowards. It says that the southern people will say they will do many things but when facing the actual storm will back down. This is a symbol for Huck because he does say he will do many things but when it comes down to it he backs away. We all can relate to this because we all have pride.
Duke and King are symbols for the things in our life that we dont have the courage to stand up to. Huck and Jim dont really have the courage to stand up to Duke and King and tell them to find their own way. Huck and Jim are tired of being lied to and being brought into trouble because of Duke and King. We all have a few things in our life that we dont have the courage to tackle and get rid of but when we finally get rid of them we are very glad.
I disliked the many chapters that it was all just about how Tom made things more complicated and more of an adventure for him. Tom seems to be a very selfish boy and doesnt think of how horrible it would be to be a prisoner. Tom puts himself in the situation to be shot because he warns the family about the kidnapping. If Tom would have done it quietly they would have gotten away unharmed but then Jim wouldnt have known that he was a free man by law. Ending with Jim being a free man was a good way to end the book and lifted most of my dislike off Tom. =)
